After running for three years, it seems an appropriate time to tell you all about our club.

We comprise, at present, of three small groups that meet separately on Sunday afternoons. Two groups come twice a month whereas the older teenagers, living further afield, come over once a month but stay for a longer session.

Over the years we have read a lot of novels and explored many famous writers ranging from : Noel Streatfield to Leon Garfield to Mark Twain to George Orwell to Jane Austen to Elizabeth Laird to Laurie Lee to Wilkie Collins to Graham Greene to Susan Cooper to Arthur Ransome .

As well as reading, we always manage to find time for the children to enjoy a seasonal tea together which gives everyone time to relax and chat !

This year we have created the WhatsApp groups so that we can add some extra activities for the members to do before the next session plus it also gives the parents and children/ teens an opportunity to explore their reading experiences together- emojis crop up quite frequently- and to be involved in the future plans.

July meetings :

We plan to select some volunteers from the groups to write some blogs for this page and also to talk about the free ‘Midsummers Night Dream’ two-day course , at the end of August, which we plan to put on for the parents as a way of celebrating our three years of attending the Book Club together.
